Weekly Goals

Writing my goals each week is helping me focus and get more done although this past week I did not get them all done.

How I did this past week-

1. Make progress on a UFO. Done. Friday I shared a photo of my assembled Plaid-ish quilt top.

2. Quilt a comfort quilt. No quilting happened.

3. Piece green scrap blocks. Done. I have 20 blocks made which will finish at 48 by 60” and I have cut pieces to add a scrappy border like I did on the blue top.

4.  Record stash fabric used or added. Added: 0 Used: ? I did a lot of piecing this week from my scrap user system so it doesn't count. I spent an afternoon sorting and organizing 3 large boxes of scraps but they are not cut up yet.

5. Clean and organize a drawer. Done.

The highlight for me this week was meeting in the quilt room at church face-to-face (with masks) with my church quilt group instead of on Zoom. It was great to enjoy the chit chat while working together after a year of isolation.

At home I spent several mornings in the yard. I was glad I wore a mask when I paused and saw a yellow cloud with a breeze. Pollen is very bad right now but the garden calls. After a change out of work clothes and a shower to remove any pollen from my hair, I could spend the afternoon piecing.

I have enjoyed Pat Sloan's March “Hope” challenge and now have assembled the quilt top.

I am expecting family for Easter weekend. I will not have as much time to sew so I am limiting my goals.

Again this year I am participating in Sarah's comfort quilt drive called Hands2Help2021.

She has 5 charity suggestions but you can also choose one local and special to you. She has many fabulous sponsors who supply something special for participants. Hope you check it out and join in.

Goals for the week of March 29th

1. Piece green scrap border.

2. Decide on comfort quilt patterns for Hands2Help2021.

3. Record stash fabric used or added.

4. Clean and organize a drawer.

Yeah for UFO Progress

I don't have a finish but I made progress on a UFO and am excited to have a quilt top. The pattern is “Plaid-ish” from Kitchen TableQuilting

Right now it is only 46” by 64” which is a small lap quilt. The original pattern finishes at 64” by 82” which is twin size.

Also exciting this week since Covid infection rate is down, my church quilt group was allowed to meet in the building face-to-face (still wearing masks). It has been a year since we gathered in our workroom. We sandwiched 3 quilt tops and enjoyed the time.

With lovely spring weather I spent a couple of mornings in the yard working but wearing a different mask because of pollen. The count is very high right now. When I paused while working and the wind blew, there was a visible yellow cloud from the pine tree.

I enjoy checking out what others are working on and am linking up with Sarah for Whoop, Whoop Friday.

Weekly Goals

This was a good week for sewing. Our weather turned cool again so I was not motivated to work in the garden so more got done in the house and sewing room.

How I did this past week--

1. Make progress on a UFO. Not done.

2. Quilt a comfort quilt. Done  Photo was posted Friday.  The quilting was frustrating with many thread breaks and I didn't really find out what the problem was. I changed the needle 3 times and checked threading and tension. I did not change the thread because I did not have another spool of the same color. Hope it goes more smoothly on the next quilt.

3 Record stash fabric used or added. Used: 1 3/4 yds

                                                            Added: 0

4. Clean and organize a drawer. Done, although all have not found a good home. I tackled the kitchen misc/junk drawer. I found many old keys that I don't know what they go or went to. Some may go to old padlocks that in the garage. Many I have no idea. There were packets of screws and various small hardware items that weren't used when things like blinds were installed. What do you do with things like that? I expect that is why they collected in the drawer.

I caught up on Pat Sloan's March Hope block quilt. Instead of sewing one block a day, it is easier for me to sew 2 at a time change piecing leader/ender style. I laid out the blocks I had completed and chose colors to cut for the rest of the quilt.

I am up-to-date on the “Old School' BOM. Here are my first 3 blocks. This month the lesson is on fussy cutting. I used fabric markers to help the fussy cut fabric blend better with the other fabrics I am using.

For Pat's “Home Is” mystery block each Wednesday I also used fussy cutting.

Goals for the week of March 22nd

1. Make progress on a UFO.

2. Piece green scrap blocks.

3 Record stash fabric used or added.

4. Clean and organize a drawer.

A Couple of Finishes

With yesterday's threat of severe weather (which missed us) I stayed in and quilted. It was frustrating with thread breaks, but I was able to finish the second Colorworks comfort quilt for my church quilt ministry.

I have seen variations of the Colorworks pattern (with different names) and even made one myself using string blocks. It goes together quickly and can use small amounts of a variety of fabrics so a great choice for a comfort quilt. It can also easily be made larger to suit your needs.

I also quilted a set of 8 butterfly placemats.

I used this meandering free-motion butterfly motif

that I found on this website

After I post this I go to get my second Covid vaccine shot.

I'm linking up with Alycia for Finished (or Not) Friday.

Weekly Goals

The weather here has been beautiful and spring-like so several mornings I worked in the yard. Then I usually spent the afternoon on quilt projects.

How I did for the week-

1. Sandwich a quilt top. Done. Sandwiched 2 comfort quilts.

2 Record stash fabric used or added. Used: 3 ¼ yds   Added: 0

3. Clean and organize a drawer. Done I tackled an easy one. There are a couple that I am avoiding but they need to be cleaned out.

Besides working on my goals I worked on many projects not on my list.  I seem to be avoiding UFOs this month.  I finished a set of 4 placemats for the Family Promise auction in April.  Hope someone will want them.

Then I pieced simple tops for a set of 8 butterfly placemats yet to be quilted.

One day I pieced the “Oh My Stars” quilt top that I did not get to last week.

It is an easy pattern from Pat Sloan and the second I have made.  It makes a quick comfort quilt with a special touch.

I pieced block 10 and am caught up on Pat Sloan's “Home Is” Mystery block of the week. I love the asymmetrical setting of various size blocks.  You can still join in.

I sewed several blocks for the “March Hope” quilt challenge to sew a block a day. I started out good but have fallen behind. I find it easier to chain piece several at a time instead of one a day so Sunday I spent time cutting block kits.

Goals for the week of March 15

1. Make progress on a UFO.

2. Quilt a comfort quilt.

3 Record stash fabric used or added.

4. Clean and organize a drawer.  Maybe a difficult one.

Depending on the weather I also plan to spend time in the garden.

Stay safe and healthy while you enjoy some time sewing or quilting.

Weekly Goals

This week I took a little holiday to spend time with family and granddaughters so most of my goals were not accomplished.

How did I do- week of March 1st

1. Sandwich a quilt top or two. Not touched. I got sidetracked. When I was cleaning and organizing I pulled out orphan blocks from when I taught quilting classes. I have been requested to donate a quilted item for the Family Promise auction. I decided with a little work I could turn the orphan blocks into 4 placemats. They are now tops. Because of my out of town visit that is where work stopped.

2. Make a dent in the green and red scrap box by cutting them into units. Done. I'm sure I have enough green pieces for a 60 by 72” green version of “Winter Blues”. So far I have pieced 9 blocks.

3. Piece “Oh My Stars” comfort quilt top. Not done. I only sewed the star points onto 16 squares.

3 Record stash fabric used or added. Used: 0.3 I made several doll masks and cut a couple of 2 1/2” strips. Added: 0

4. Clean and organize a drawer. Done. It feels good to be more organized and clear out some. The only problem is that I uncovered long forgotten UFOs and orphan blocks from when I taught quilting classes back as far as 2009.

I am still spending time with family so new goals are restricted.

Goals for the week of March 8

1. Sandwich a quilt top.

2 Record stash fabric used or added.

3. Clean and organize a drawer.

Stay safe and healthy while you enjoy some time sewing or quilting.

Weekly Goals

I am on a roll with finishing projects on my UFO list for this year. I have already been able to finish 6 quilts and I have 6 tops waiting to be quilted. Most of the easier finishes are done and the next few months I will be tackling more complicated projects. I am happy with the year's beginning.

How I did last week -

1. Quilt Elvira. Done. I finished and shared it on Friday's post.

2. Piece blue scrap quilt top. Done. After sewing the blocks together I decided to add a pieced border of 4 1/2” strips to make it larger. Now it waits with others for quilting.

3. Piece a couple of maple leaf blocks. I made 2 more but I am feeling I need a break from these. I only have unusual color pieces left or I have to cut more from the scraps.

4. Record stash fabric used or added. Used: 1 ½ yds
                                                              Added: 0

5. Clean and organize a drawer. Done. I tackled a small drawer in my dresser and found many scarves I have not worn for years. Some went into the donate box but a couple did not. A few things I just can't put in the donate box yet. One is a pair of medium length cream color kid gloves that I think were my aunts. Who wears dress gloves these days?

So far I am keeping up with Pat Sloan's weekly “Home Is” mystery, except for some setting insert strips and a spacer block that I need to decide on fabrics for.

I made good progress cutting green fabric units from a box of scraps. There are still plenty more scraps to cut and organize. I find them so easy to piece into simple comfort quilts when I have a good selection of precut units.

Goals for the week of March 1st

1. Sandwich a quilt top or two.

2. Make a dent in the green and red scrap box by cutting them into units.

3. Piece “Oh My Stars” comfort quilt top.

3 Record stash fabric used or added.

4. Clean and organize a drawer.

As we have more nice weather, I will be spending time in the garden and quilting with slow some.

Have a great week.  Stay safe and healthy while you enjoy some time sewing or quilting.
