Visit to Quilt Con 2023

I enjoyed a wonderful afternoon at QuiltCon in Atlanta with both granddaughters and my son, their father. We saw many fabulous quilts in our 3 hour visit. It was enough time for our stamina but not enough to see all the quilts or vendors. You can check out the QuiltCon2023 winners at this link:https://quiltcon.com/quiltcon-2023-winners/

Here I will share a couple of quilts I loved for the techniques. If you click on the picture, the larger view should open.

Many quilts used big stitch quilting to enhance the design. “Quilter's Energy” was one.

The collage of fabrics and raw edge applique was fabulous in “Crowned with Care”.

I am already looking forward to QuiltCon 2024 in Raleigh, NC.

Besides enjoying QuiltCon my other goal for the week was to piece the crumb block top. It is together, although now I think it needs one more row to be more adult lap size so I will find or make 4 more crumb blocks. I think I probably can find 4 more in my stash of orphans that will look good.

    Stash Report for 2023

this past week-    Used: 1 yd Added: 0 yds
So far this year- Used: 27.815 yds Added: 21 yds
            Net decrease 6.625 yds

Have a great week with some time for quilting.

Another Finish and Progress

We had a few days of spring-like temperatures so it felt good to get out in the yard. I spent 2 full mornings on yard work getting my vegetable and flower beds in shape. Then I could rest in the afternoon and spend time on quilting projects.   Both of my goals were accomplished.

I am making progress on CF applique. The dragons are the most time consuming sections because of all the starts and stops.

The kaleidoscope comfort quilt for church is finished.

I meandered in the center and quilted FM feathers in the border.  Not the prettiest feathers I have quilted but they look pretty on the border.

I pulled 2 UFO wall-hanging tops that just need quilting and got them sandwiched so they are one step closer to being finished.

    Stash Report for 2023

this past week-  Used: 3.625 yds    Added: 0 yds
So far this year- Used: 26.815 yds  Added: 21 yds

I am looking forward to taking my granddaughters to Quilt Con in Atlanta this coming weekend. I hope to take some photos to share for inspiration.

Goals for this week:

1. Enjoy Quilt Con
2. Piece crumb blocks into a top

* I've linked up with Alycia for Finished or Not Friday.  Check out the inspiration.

Have a great week with some time for quilting.

First Start-to-Finish for 2023

Last week was a busy week for quilting with great progress and finishes. The best was finishing my GD Mattie's new quilt. In January she was updating her bedroom and asked me to make her a new quilt. She picked out the colors to go with her new green walls and hardwood floor. Here is the finish.

I did a different FM motif in each color zigzag.

In 2022 I pieced a QOV top for guild following Alycia's QOV Mystery Stop Tossing. After a guild member quilted it, I was given it back for binding.  Now it goes back to guild for a presentation.

Goals for last week and stash report:

1. Stitch down appliques on 4 more Celtic units Not done. I did not get very far on this because of prioritizing other projects.
2. Choose backing and sandwich GD's quilt. Done and as noted above Finished.
3. Sew binding on QOV Done

    Stash Report for 2023

I donated a large piece that can be used for backing a charity quilt so that increased my used amount.

this past week-   Used:  9.75 yds     Added:  0 yds
So far this year- Used: 23.195 yds  Added: 21 yds
         Net decrease 2 yds

I quilted the center of my kaleidoscope quilt and just need to quilt the border so that is on the list for this week as well as getting back to doing the triple blanket stitch on the Celtic Fantasy units. These dragons take a lot of time.

Goals for this week:

1. Stitch down appliques on Celtic units
2. Quilt border on kaleidoscope quilt and bind.

Have a great week with some time for quilting.

Weekly Progress and Goals

It is Monday again and time to take stock and set weekly goals. Because I was spending more time with GDs last week, I did not plan a lot of quilting but I feel great about what was accomplished. My goals were to -

1. make progress on GD Mattie's quilt. Done. I corrected the twisted block on Mattie's quilt top and am looking for a backing fabric.

2. Work on comfort quilts. Done. I already had the blocks for a scrappy 16 patch ready to sew and finished piecing that top also. This may get a simple border to make it a little larger for a comfort quilt.

After those projects went as far as they could for the week, I pulled out a UFO. GD Mattie helped layout the Dogtooth Star blocks and Wednesday I sewed the top together. It will get a simple blue border added.

I used an orphan LOVE block, a drawing of hers and scrap 2 ½” strips to make a placemat for GD Lily with quilting by stitching in the ditch.

I made 2 Valentine bargello placemats. They were very easy. I cut a 2 ½” WOF strip of 9 fabrics and sewed a strip set. (9 fat quarters with strips cut lengthwise should also work to make 6 placemat tops. I will have to check that out.) Then pressed seams and sewed into a tube. I cut 14 2 ½” strips (7 for each placemat). Unpick the seam of each strip progressing between a different set of fabrics for the 7 strips. After piecing the tops, I sewed and turned them pillowcase style. I quilted with a walking foot using the serpentine stitch.

After half day school Thursday and Friday GD Lily made progress sewing blocks for her quilt. She has half the blocks sewn and several rows together.

Goals for this week and stash report:

1. Stitch down appliques on 4 more Celtic units
2. Choose backing and sandwich GD's quilt.
3. Sew binding on QOV
