A Little Sewing Progress

This has been a hot week outside and inside my home. Last week the serviceman added coolant and dye to search for a leak in my 5 year old unit. That only helped for a few days before the unit started to have trouble cooling. It is difficult to get motivated to sew or do much of anything in a very warm house.

Before the house got so hot, I finished piecing and pressing 80 Jewel Box Star blocks.  I did not want to work on a layout so I switched to my Easy Breezy block project for a charity quilt. I planned an on-point layout with sashing and cornerstone stars.

With added coolant the house is now cool again for a few days so I pieced the star points on sashing strips, laid out the blocks, and started sewing rows together. I have not chosen a fabric for the setting triangles.

Hope you are staying safe and healthy while enjoying some sewing or quilting.

Just a Little Sewing

Most of the past week was spent helping my sister after she had a partial cornea transplant. I did some cooking and put in her eye drops every hour, but mostly kept her company while she reclined for her eye to heal. She is improving daily.

Before I left town, every day I was checking progress on 5 caterpillars on my parsley.

After I returned home, I found 2 chrysalis on daylily plants near by. I may or may not discover others. Can you find them?

I plan to check them every morning in hopes of seeing them hatch and fly away like I did one a few weeks ago. It was exciting.

The only sewing and quilting that got done was to finish up 3 more Christmas placemats that will go for Meals on Wheels.

I used TV time for squaring up a pile of HST units for Jewel Box Stars from Bonnie's 2018 leader/ender challenge.

Thursday I sewed more blocks together. I am getting close to having enough for the quilt I plan to make. These are actually stacks sorted and pinned on my design wall.

Hope you are staying safe and healthy while enjoying some sewing or quilting.

String Quilt Finish and More

The first part of the week was spent with GDs. The youngest sewed a kit and made a unicorn pillow. She was excited to make it. She needed help sewing the tail and other parts on to the body with 4 layers but she did a great job.

The last half of the week I got busy sewing. I cut strips from the church group holiday fabric stash and made 4 holiday placemats using the Courthouse steps free pattern from Jordan Fabrics. You can also watch the tutorial on YouTube. ( I would skip the first few minutes where Matt picks out fabric.) I plan to make a few more. The quilting is stitch in the ditch.  Easy, no binding since turned pillowcase style.  The goal is to have enough to be delivered with Meals on Wheels in December.

Next I quilted the string half log cabin quilt.

I quilted a loopy meander.

I thought about using a scrappy binding but found a long binding piece of the green stripe. I had just enough of the fabric to add some strips to get all the way.

Hope you are staying safe and healthy while enjoying some sewing or quilting in a cool space.

I'm linking up with Whoop, Whoop Friday.  Check out the projects and get inspired.
