A Finished Top and Weekly Goals

I'm back this week to my regular sewing/quilting room and have projects that I want to accomplish. Last week of Grandma Camp time was fun and I have some things to share. GDs are sweet young ladies.

How I did on last week's goals:

1. Finish piecing the split nine patch top. Done. Sunday evening I added a simple border and looked for backing. We really want this finished by next Sunday to give as a gift at a wedding shower after church.

2. Work on projects with granddaughters. Done. Many projects were worked on and GD Mattie had a lot of driving practice. Early in the week the girls worked with some discharge paste on black tank tops.

GD Lily sewed the first 6 rows into one piece.

GD Mattie tried repairing a gauze shoulder bag and then added a lining instead. This grandma's heart was happy when she said she had decided she liked sewing again.

They each modeled a dino character out of air dry clay. They need to dry more before painting.

We also had time for baking together.  It was a wonderful week of family time.

Quilting Progress and Goals

Wow! The week flew by and I stayed busy with a variety of projects. Let's see how I did on last week's goals:

    1. Finish piecing my share of the split nine patch blocks. Done. Not only did I piece my share of the blocks but I received all the blocks and started piecing the top. Here are the first 4 of 7 rows pieced together.

I hope to get the center pieced and add a simple border so that it will be ready for quilting the first part of next week.

    2. Sandwich and start quilting one of the quilts for children. Not done. I took all 3 tops and backings to church and left them hoping the group will get them sandwiched Wednesday without me and start quilting on one or more.

I quilted the setting triangles and borders on my “Peony Star” quilt, however, did not take a progress photo. This is a photo from before.

Back to Quilting Goals

I had a very busy 2 weeks with very little sewing or quilting. Right after July 4th holiday I spent several days with family. GD Lily celebrated her birthday.

Before it got too hot I enjoyed a couple of hours working with her in her flower beds deadheading.

This past week I helped out at VBS (Art and Bible Camp) at church. It was fun, wild and exhausting but I'm so glad I participated.

I am in the middle of 2 big quilting projects; however, I paused quilting on them to work on a couple of time sensitive projects. My church quilt group is making a quilt as a wedding gift for a member of church staff. We are making blue and white split nine patches. Here are a few of the blocks.

When I saw this post about a counselor's request for small quilts for children from Ukraine, I thought my church quilt group could help with that also. We had a few smaller tops waiting for quilting. I added a row to one and a border to another so they were the right size. I pulled fabric and pieced backings so 3 are ready to be sandwiched for quilting.

Goals for this week:

1. Finish piecing my share of the split nine patch blocks
2. Sandwich and start quilting one of the quilts for children.

Have a great week and enjoy some time for quilting.

Celebrating July 4th

The actual holiday is Tuesday; however, the celebrating has started for some. I've heard some early fireworks. I'm sure there will be more Tuesday to enjoy after we grill supper ( hoping the weather will cooperate). Hope you all enjoy a safe, happy July 4th holiday.

I do not expect to get much sewing/quilting done this week so I'm not even setting goals. I have plans to work in the yard and spend some time with family.

How I did on last week's goals:

1. Do more quilting on “Celtic Fantasy” Not done. Instead I decided to start quilting my “Peony Star” quilt because I hope to show it in August. It is difficut to see but the stars are all custom quilted as well as the “Summer Winds” alternate blocks. I need to quilt the star background and borders.

2. Sandwich charity quilts Done. I actually sandwiched 2 so they are just waiting to be quilted.

Have a great week and enjoy some time for quilting.

Happy July 4th
