Making Progress

I don't have a finish to share but I have made great progress on a couple of projects.

Here is how I did on my goals for last week:

1. Do more quilting on “Suncatcher Crystals”. Done.

I did a lot of custom FM quilting with a different motif in each border and each crystal is quilted the same. Now I am ready to change thread color to quilt the yellow background.

2. Start piecing “Celtic Fantasy” Done.

I finally started piecing “Celtic Fantasy” together. I created the pattern from Ricky Tims' Rhapsody Quilts and Celtic Fantasy workshop books. I have done curved piecing before but never with such free form pieces. I got a LOT of practice with inset corners.

One good thing about Ricky's technique is that all the curved seams are stay-stitched to help prevent distortion. I felt good about the process until the last set of units on the outside edge. They currently don't lay as flat as they should so I need to do some adjusting before I add an outer simple border.  I was too tired to tackle that yesterday afternoon.

With all that quilting and piecing, I did not use any new fabric so my stash report did not change.

Goals for this week:

1. Do more quilting on “Suncatcher Crystals” .
2. Adjust piecing on “Celtic Fantasy”
3. Cut and piece a H2H quilt top.

Have a great week and enjoy some time quilting.

Weekly Goals

I have a lot of things on my schedule this week so hope I have time to quilt.  This morning I met at church with quilt group members. I helped a new quilter sandwich and start machine quilting her first quilt which will be for her granddaughter. Then I helped sew and stuff cat beds for a shelter. We finished 6.

How I did on last week's goals:

1. Sandwich and start quilting the “Suncatcher Crystals” top. Done. I did mostly in-the-ditch quilting so far to stablize.

2. Create step-outs to demo trapunto method. Done. I created the step-outs so that the units can possibly be used a future quilt with trapunto accents.

3. Start piecing “Celtic Fantasy” Not done.

There is only a small change in my stash report. Most of my piecing last week was on a H2H top and I was using fabric from church quilt group. I shared a photo in Sunday's post.

H2H Check In

Wednesday was sew day for my church quilt group and we worked on several quilt tops for Hands2Help Challenge this year. My favorite is this adaptation of Fabric Cafe's pattern “Attraction”. This was a fast easy twin size top perfect for H2H charity challenge. It will go to the Mennonite Central Committee project for areas dealing with conflict or disaster such as Turkey and Ukraine.

I love the colors in the stripe fabric so wanted to use it for this quilt top. I plan to use the pattern again, but next time I will not use a one way design. I am happy with the final top; however, it was a pain to match the stripe.

Have a great week with some time for quilting.

Goals and Progress

I skipped last Monday's update on my weekly goals and progress, mostly because it was travel day to return home from visiting family and granddaughters. I enjoyed a wonderful week visiting with them. I'm late posting today because this morning I hosted 8 ladies for my Women of the Church circle meeting. I served Strawberry Bread with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. You can find the recipe here.

How I did on my goals last week:

    1. Continue progress on my guild Rainbow Challenge quilt top. Done. I shared progress on a Friday post and have since added the borders to complete the top. I also pieced a backing. I hope to get it sandwiched this week and start the quilting.

2. Plan for participating in the Hands 2 Help challenge 2023 Done.

I washed a chosen fabric group and started cutting an easy kit.

I also worked on a few small quick gifts. I made a mug rug from scraps, finished 2 floral placemats ( the tops were pieced during covid shut down)

and appliqued a cute gnome on to a kitchen hand towel.

The gnome is a free pattern from Jelly Roll Club. There is a gnome block for each month plus other blocks so you can make a whole quilt.

    Stash Report for 2023

So far this year- Used: 40.46 yds Added: 22 yds

Goals for this week:

1. Sandwich and start quilting the “Rainbow Crystals” top.
2. Create step-outs to demo trapunto method.
3. Start piecing “Celtic Fantasy”

Have a great week with some time for quilting.
