Goals for the Week

During the past couple of months, I have not focused on goals for quilting. I have spent more time with GDs and working in my vegetable garden. As August comes to an end I hope to get back to focusing on quilting goals. One yearly goal has been to use and reduce my fabric stash. So far I feel very good about what I have used and also that I have been able to resist the temptation to buy.

Stash fabric used or added the past week. Used: 5 yds Added: 0 yds.

So far this year - Used: 82 yds Added: 7.5 yds

How I did on goals for the past week:

1. Finish quilting on a project. Done. Quilting and binding on a holiday topper was finished and shared Friday.

2. Piece several watercolor blocks for church group. Done.

We are on track to have enough blocks finished for our next meeting. One of our group took the floral squares home and laid out 5 blocks.

3. Cut out more units with GO dies. No; however, I did study the pattern guide for my die sets. I have a plan.

4. Make progress on a UFO. No, hopefully this week.

While sorting scraps I found a nice scrap of fall harvest fabric and decided to make a couple of placemats for gifts.  They are finished.

Is it too early to gift something for fall? Maybe, but I'm glad to have them done and waiting for the right time.

Goals for this week:

    1. Start quilting my “Home Is” quilt top.

    2. Cut scraps into units with GO cutter and die.

    3. Make progress piecing on a UFO.

That is probably plenty to keep me busy.

Hope you stay safe and healthy and enjoy some time sewing and quilting.

Table Topper Finish

Some time ago someone passed along a sandwich bag of leftover pieces. I have no idea to whom they had belonged or from which project them were leftover. I was able to create 4 blocks which became the base of this table topper. The colors are a little unusual for Christmas fabric, more raspberry and moss.  I found some fabrics in my stash that I thought worked. It is not very complicated or beautiful, but I'm happy that it is now a finished project for someone to enjoy.

Stay healthy and enjoy some time sewing and quilting.

Monday Again Already?

Here is the official finished photo for my “March Hope” quilt with binding on.   I love how the black binding frames it.

Recently I've noticed more arthritis in my right hand so when I saw a great sale on GO cutters and dies, I decided to give it a try. I spent a few days ironing scraps and trying a couple of the dies. I love how the dies clip the corners of triangles for easy accurate piecing. Here are the first ones I pieced.

Friday my GDs helped bake and decorate an early birthday cake for their dad. We used soccer figures that were on his birthday cake MANY years ago.

This was a small Keto cake which really didn't have room for the whole soccer set up but that is what the girls wanted.

Stash fabric used or added the past week.

So far this year - Used: 77 yds   Added: 7.5 yds

One Quilted

I returned home from helping my sister. My garden needed to be picked and watered and I needed to prepare for church quilt group. Finally I got to quilting my “March Hope” quilt and it didn't take long.

This weekend I plan to get the binding on.  I am thinking of using black. This was a free pattern and challenge from Pat Sloan in March to make a Hope block each day. I was able to keep up so by the end of the month I had a pieced top. I love the scrappy design and it was great to pull 2 1/2” strips from my stash. I did have to cut more light strips.

I'm linking up with Alycia for Finished (or Not) Friday and Sarah for Whoop, Whoop Friday.

Stay healthy and hope you enjoy some time sewing or quilting.

Week of Progress

I feel good about all that I got done last week.

How I did the past week:

1. Clean off the craft table. Done. Lots of scraps were cut into usable units like 2 1/2” strips and squares, as well as 3 1/2”, 4 1/2”, and 6 1/2”. Some became strings and some small pieces joined the crumbs.

2. Sandwich a quilt top. Done. I sandwiched 2 quilts and a tabletopper

3. Start quilting. Done. I finished all the in-the-ditch quilting on the tabletopper.

4. Make progress on a UFO. Done. Finished piecing 24 blocks for “Almost Wild” which started as a plan to make Bonnie Hunter's “Wild Child” quilt design. The blocks are now on hold until I finish quilting some of the 9 tops that are waiting.

This week I don't expect to get much quilting done so I am not listing any goals. A sister is having surgery tomorrow to remove 8 screws from her foot and ankle that were placed a few years ago when she broke it. I plan to help her for a few days since I doubt she will feel like cooking or cleaning. I am looking forward to visiting time with sisters which did not happened much in the past year.
