Goals and Progress

The past week we had one day of 102 record temperature so too hot to work much outdoors. That meant sewing and I have been busy and productive.

Weekly Goals:

1. Quilt one of the personal quilts sandwiched and waiting for quilting.
I chose to quilt my lap size “Plaidish” which was started in 2020. Quilting is finished, binding attached to the front and corners pinned for hand stitching.

2. Add border to Woven quilt for SQG.
Done and the binding is all ready made.

My weekly goals were easily accomplished and I even made progress on my yearly goals.

Yearly Goals:

1. decrease stash fabric

I used a lot of stash this week. I cut fabric for 3 comfort quilt kits. I pulled a couple of yards to use for a 3 yard quilt pattern but needed the third fabric so I went shopping. I bought 2 yards which will make a wider border and binding. I had a JoAnn coupon so it was only $3 a yard which was a terrific price.

Stash fabric used or added:

this past week-    Used:     11 yds     Added: 2 yds
So far this year- Used: 73.25 yds    Added: 15.75 yds

2. control and use scrap fabric

Thursday I pulled blue scraps and cut units for Alycia's Stepper pattern. I feel great that I was able to use scraps equivalent to 3 yards. Although I made a nice dent in scraps, I still have a pile of blue 3 ½“ strips.

Donna's Mix & Match video popped up on my YouTube feed. I was interested in the block construction and wanted to give it a try. Instead of using 5” squares, I pulled some leftover 10” squares and was able to make a 16” finished block. On the first block attempt I forgot a step. I was able to salvage it but the center is a different size. I plan to share the design at church quilt group and then they will probably become placemats.

When I took a break from machine quilting, I pulled fabrics for another comfort quilt. I had a charm pack and a jelly roll that coordinated. I plan to use the free pattern from Fat Quarter Shop called “Jelly Roll Twist”. Missouri Star Quilts calls a similar pattern Two Step.

My major goal for this week is to quilt my Jewel Box Stars top.

Stay safe, cool and healthy while enjoying some time sewing and quilting.
