A Little Progress

This week sure has flown by.  Part may be the letdown after Easter company returned home.  I spent Monday quilting a comfort quilt that a church friend pieced.
For practice I quilted the ferny motif from Angela Walters in the border, meandered the green background areas, and a continuous design in the squares.  Here is a close up of the quilting.
Here is the back view.

Tuesday I took time to sandwich my 4 Patch Swirl queen size top.  I want some dark green thread for quilting most of the quilt. I am considering a special motif for the nine patch stars.

Wednesday my church quilt group met. In addition to helping others with their projects, I added borders to the leaf quilt and found a backing fabric so it will soon be ready to be sandwiched.

Preparing for Easter Company

This week I have been cleaning house and a big part of that was dealing with fabric scraps.

I sorted scraps into strings, larger scraps that need cutting up and small bits that will be used for crumb piecing or “made-fabric”.  I think I could probably make quilt tops for a year just using scraps. I still have this large box to deal with.

I pulled flannel scraps to make this baby quilt for Jack’s Basket
charity which is one of 5 that Sarah is highlighting for the Hands2Help drive. I decided to do pillowcase style with no binding which I think will make it softer.  Here it is pin basted for quilting which will be minimal wavy diagonal lines.

I did work a little in my yard and several of my bearded iris are blooming now. We are expecting storms today, but I am hoping they will remain lovely for Easter.

I love the little bunnies that LAPaylor of Not Afraid of Color made and was inspired.  I finished one
and it is in my Easter basket.

Happy Easter!

Finishes and It Is Definitely Spring

We have lots of pollen in the air and on everything.  Some are saying it is the worst year ever.   That along with ups and downs of the temperature from 35 degrees a couple of nights and 80 a couple of afternoons,  spring is definitely here.  After 2 mornings of working in the yard, several flower beds are looking good.  Many of my bearded iris are starting to bloom.

For my sewing time I have been like a busy bee moving from one project to another enjoying working a little on many.  A dark blue print border has been added to the floating stars and Kathy helped choose backing fabric so it can be sandwiched for quilting.

I finished a couple of mug rugs.

Jan finished the binding on our SQG full bed size quilt for a Wilmington hurricane victim so it can be taken to a drop off point this month. This was a wonderful scrappy joint project.

Hands2Help Finish and Lots in Progress

I have finished a twin size quilt using the “Sunshine on a Cloudy Day” free pattern from Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict blog which is one of her Rocking Rectangles designs. I love how easy it was and plan to use the pattern again.

Most of my recent piecing has been comfort quilt focused.  Two comfort quilt tops are pieced and waiting for borders.  The 16 patches were orphans donated by someone. I would be happy without a border; however, several friends think it would look better with a dark blue border.
A border would make it a better size for an adult.  There is another set of 6 16-patch blocks leftover for another project.

Next the leaf blocks were adopted after a block exchange. (This is the second quilt from the adopted leaf blocks.  The first was more floral. Here is the link for the first.) I added strips on 2 sides half log cabin style then more strips as sashing.  The result is it looks more improv. I plan to add simple borders.

I also pulled out these blocks made from gifted HSTs.

I had enough to piece 20 blocks that finish at 8”.  Since the blocks are small, it needs sashing or something to increase size.  I am planning an on-point layout if I make a few alternate blocks; however, I am open to other ideas.  Any suggestions for alternate blocks for another color to use?
