Getting Close

I missed my usual Monday post because I did not have much to share. Last week I only had 2 afternoons to sew. I made some progress on mini pinwheel units but that was it. I spent most of the week with my sister Irene in the mountains and enjoyed it. The weather was a wonderful change from hot Columbia, SC. I took a box of fabric for her guild but no other change in my stash to report.

I had hopes for sewing and quilting this week. It is so hot and dry here that I have to water to keep the garden alive and other yard work needs to happen when it is cool enough to work outside. I am excited that with my afternoon sewing time I am so close to finishing all the blocks for the bows and pinwheel quilt. These are the last 64 1 inch finished HSTs

that became the last 16 pinwheel units

so that I can finish these 16 blocks.

I am very happy and look forward to sewing the top together soon.

I'm linking with Alycia's Finished or Not Friday. Hope to check out what others are working on.

Have a great week and enjoy some time for quilting.

A Finish and More Tiny Pinwheels

The past week I made good progress on the tiny pinwheels but I'm getting tired of making them. I pieced a set of 16 yellow pinwheels and pieced the 64 HSTs that will be the 16 pink pinwheels. I only need to make sets of light purple and light pink.

When I was ready for a break from sewing pinwheels, I quilted an Illusion block I Spy quilt and have it ready for Joan to bind. For the quilting I did a simple meander.

I also spent a couple of hours quilting another comfort quilt for church but it is not finished.

I am almost finished going through boxes of fabric that was shared by a couple of quilters. I'm passing a box of Christmas fabric on to my sister's NC guild as well as a bunch of precuts from MaryAnn's stash. I will be taking a box of fabric to my church quilt group as well as a couple of MaryAnn's UFOs. Even though I have many UFOs of my own, I could not resist adopting a few of MaryAnn's UFOs. I added to my stash some wonderful large pieces of white on white from MaryAnn. I have an idea for which I will need a large chunk. Since I was adding to my stash, I reviewed some fabric pieces and pulled a few yards to be donated.

Tiny Pinwheels and Gardening

Last week I again split my time with many mornings in the garden and afternoons piecing tiny pinwheels. I finished 16 each of green and blue pinwheels and sewed them into units.

I have pieced enough now that I have a system so they are getting quicker to piece. Sunday afternoon I pieced 16 light blue.

I still need 16 each of 5 different colors to complete the alternate block for the bows quilt top.  If you haven't seen, this is my EQ plan.

Friday I wanted something different to sew and made 2 quick placemats for Wheels on Wheels clients. My pattern was inspired by Pat Sloan's “Oh My Stars” pattern which I have used a few times. Since I wanted the placemats to finish about 14” by 18”, the squares finish at 3 ½ “. They went together quickly and I love how they look so plan to make more.

I am disappointed that I did not make time to quilt on projects that are sandwiched and waiting. Vegetables just will not wait. Soon it will be too hot and the garden will slow down.
