Busy Sewing Room and Weekly Goals

About the only thing I did outside in the garden was water.  Sunday we finally had a shower.  Not enough but it helps.  I am expecting house guests and spent extra time cleaning.  I had fun in my sewing room last week. Even though I did not accomplish all the goals I had, I feel like I got a lot done.

This is how I did on last week's quilting goals:
1. Finish quilting the charity quilt. - Done. Another member of my
church quilt group enjoys sewing bindings on so I don't need to.

2. Add quilting to “Celtic Fantasy” - Not Done.
Instead, I cut squares for a pieced border on my March Block a
Day quilt top and got the 2 side borders sewn on.

I also started working on a special quilt for the Modern Quilt Guild's QuiltCon 2024 fabric challenge. I received a fat eight bundle of fabric by Windham and bought another 2 yards of the white/aqua to use as my background. Only these fabrics can be used on the front of the quilt. It is total improvisation and only units are pieced so far.

A friend who loves gnomes celebrated her 80th birthday Sunday. These are the cute designs I appliqued onto kitchen towels for her. You can find the free designs here

Using Strips and Goals

It was still hot here so no yard work was happening. That just meant I looked for things to do inside. This is how I did on last week's goals:

1. Finish quilting the charity quilt. Not Done. I didn't do any quilting.

2. Make progress on a UFO. Done. I made great progress on 2

charity UFO tops. I pieced enough scrappy nine patches for the border of “Traffic Jam”. Hopefully, this week I will get them sew together and on to the top.

I also finished piecing 20 string units for a “Woven” quilt.

I appliqued a cute design on a kitchen towel which will be a present for a friend. I will wait until it is gifted before I show it.

All the projects I worked on used strips, strings or small pieces so I could not measure yardage used. I'm going to estimate about a yard.

Stash Report for 2023

this past week- Used: 1 yd Added: 0 yds
So far this year- Used: 66.21 yds Added: 40 yds
Net decrease 26.21 yds

Goals for this week:

    1. Finish quilting the charity quilt. - This should not take much time.

    2. Add quilting to “Celtic Fantasy” - I set this aside to work on time sensitive projects and now I really want to get back to this big project and make more progress on it.

Have a great week and enjoy some time for quilting.

Finishes and Goals

It was a HOT week here in SC so I could not work very long outside. That meant I had plenty of time to sew and quilt and I did.
Here is how I did on my goals for the week.
1.  Add more quilting to “Peony Stars and Summer Winds” Done.
Not only did I add more quilting but it is finished.

Here are some final close ups of the
quilting.

It took me a while to decide how I wanted to quilt it but I am pleased.
2.  Prepare for paper-piecing presentation Done.
I have notes written with quilts to show plus samples and patterns printed for the class afterwards. It was great to sort through materials. I even found some pp materials I had forgotten about.
3.  Sew top for GD Lily Done.
I plan to take her the top this week and hopefully get a photo of her wearing it if it fits.
4. Quilt a charity quilt Done.
Finished one.

Then I started quilting another.

Projects and Weekly Goals

It is Monday again and time to check on project progress and goals.    Last week I only had one goal because it was time sensitive.

1. Quilt the split nine patch Done and given.

This was a church quilt group project. Since it was a rush project, we planned to quilt it on a friend's long arm machine. Monday we found that would not work out so Tuesday we sandwiched it for me to quilt at home on my sit down long arm machine. I decided not to try any fancy quilting but simple swirls overall and finished the quilting Thursday to pass Friday for binding. The bride to be was very happy. I know I have shown this quilt in progress several times; however, here is the final photo with binding.

Happy that the gift was finished in time and given, I pulled a small project to quilt for a Ukrainian child.

I did continuous FM loops in the blocks and a loopy meander in one border with swirls in the outer border.

The binding is made and I'm hoping someone else will sew the binding on.

I pieced a small paper-piecing block to show during a presentation next week and then finished hand sewing the binding on “Peony Stars and Summer Winds”. This week I hope to add a little more quilting and call it finished.

Stash Report for 2023 (no change)

  1. Add more quilting to “Peony Stars and Summer Winds'
  2. Prepare for paper-piecing presentation
  3. Sew top for GD Lily
  4. Quilt a charity quilt

A Finish

The Split 9 Patch quilt is finished and passed on to another for the binding.

Some of the fabric came from the stash of a church quilt group member, a little from my stash and the rest from church quilt group stash. Six members of our group pieced blocks which I pieced into the top and did the machine quilting which is overall FM swirls. Another member is sewing the binding on. It was a fast quilt finish for a wedding shower this coming Sunday.

This was the third quilt our group has made using this pattern.  It is easy to prepare kits from 5" squares and 4 1/2" squares for a 12" finished block.

I'm linking up with Alycia's Finished or Not Friday.

Have a great week and enjoy some time for quilting.
